I was born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I graduated from Oshkosh West High School in May 2008 and recently, graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Radio-TV Film in January 2015. I earned a certificate from the University Honors Program for my achievement completing their rigorous program.
Throughout my college career, I interned at a few places in the area and in my field. My first internship was with the Littlest Tumor Foundation. I joined the team as a Social Media Coordinator/PR Intern and was drawn to the philanthropic causes that the non-profit advocated. I harnessed my video production skills to create compelling videos for the social media page on Facebook to raise awareness about neurofibromatosis, a disease that causes tumors in children. I left that internship to pursue a career in marketing at U.S. Venture, Inc. as a Marketing Intern. As a intern, I tabulated survey results, developed product sell sheets, and managed a publications and trade show database. At the same time, I was a videographer for a UW Oshkosh school organization called UW Oshkosh UMatter. The UW Oshkosh Counseling Center developed UW Oshkosh UMatter to advocate for bystander awareness. I took on as the videographer to develop promotional videos, a behind-the-scenes video, bystander awareness videos, a BAC Matters awareness video, a "Consent Matters" video, and a "Safety Matters" video. I was then promoted to Publicity Manager and managed social media content on their Facebook page, attending events and speakers to take photographs, and tabled in Reeve Union and Blackhawk to spread awareness. Something that I am very proud of accomplishing at UW Oshkosh UMatter was developing a social media campaign called a "like vs. share" graphic that put people in different situations and allowed them to choose which path to take via a like or share. This social media campaign was very popular. I am very proud of myself of taking on these three internships and being a full time students while still doing well in my classes in the spring of 2014.
On top of these three internships, I was producing a TV show for Titan TV called "Down by the River." I took on this project during interim in January 2014 and produced it until March 2014. Down by the River followed the life of Brock, who lives in a van, by you guessed it, the river, after recovering over a break-up. It was one of my first producing roles and I got to serve a videographer for one episode of this six-part web series. It was a difficult job because it was shot for 8-hours a day, almost entirely outside during the polar vortex in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We were working in freezing temperatures. The show is now in the process of being submitted to festivals.
In the fall of 2014, my last semester at UW Oshkosh, I decided to become a News Reporter for The Advance-Titan. I wrote over a dozen stories for that semester. It was a lot of fun because I got to talk to a lot of cool people in high positions of power, including the Chancellor of UW Oshkosh and gubertorial candidates for the midterm election in November. I am very thankful that I took on this job because it brought me out of my shell and I am no longer afraid to "cold call" strangers over the phone to ask them questions. At the same time, I was also a "News Reporter" for Titan TV. I made VOs, VOSOTS, PKGs, for the station over the course of the semester. I did 1-3 three stories a week. It was a lot of fun because it brought me out of my shell!
These opportunities were very awarding for me and I'm glad I was able to do all of them during my college career.
I am very excited to pursue a career in social media, narrative filmmaking, and broadcast journalism as I graduate.
